Tinkle the ivory at the pcc

We've just bought a piano for our main screen!

Much as we love Amanda our chief projectionist her music taste sometimes leaves a bit to be desired. So the boss thought perhaps some of the more gifted customers might fancy showing off their skills before the show.

If your coming to a screening and fancy knocking out some tunes before the adverts whilst the film is filling up, then drop us an email, and let us know.

Let us know 24 hours in advance and we'll give you a pair of free tickets for the show your coming to play at!*

*terms and conditions apply,
eg if you're rubbish we'll kick you off

No fun city - Uk Premiere & LIve Bands^

As part of the month long OXJAM music festival set up to raise money and awareness for the Oxfam charity, we at the Prince Charles Cinema have kindly offered to host the British premiere of Canadian independent music documentary, 'NO FUN CITY'.

Along with the screening we are also happy to announce that bringing our DIY dedicated evening to a suitably noisy close will be London’s SHIELD YOUR EYES. We couldn’t have asked for a more perfect band to be part of this. Check them out, you will not be disappointed.

Is live music being silenced? Cities from Montreal to Melbourne are experiencing the death of the independent live music venue. With the proliferation of condo developments in low-income artist communities, ensuing noise complaints, the commercialization of large music venues, and the rise in stringent city zoning and liquor regulations, small local music venues around the world are struggling to stay open. No Fun City is a Rock’n’Roll journey to the heart of a creative community that is fighting these conflicting business interests and city regulations with the relentless fuel of music and determination.

Set in Vancouver Canada which has long been known as the No Fun City, the film is a passionate tale about a tight-knit underground music scene and its ongoing battles in a city that seems hell-bent on shutting down all the fun. Witnessing the ups and downs of life behind the scenes, we watch as venues are closed, parties are raided, and musicians resort to playing in illegal venues, DIY warehouses, and even parking lots. No Fun City focuses on the lives of local promoters as they face irate neighbours, police raids, evictions, deportation, million dollar lawsuits, and city hall in order to keep the underground music scene alive.

The story is told through interviews with legendary Vancouver bands such as Skinny Puppy and DOA as well as current Vancouver bands like 3 Inches of Blood and Japandroids and features live high-energy music performances, candid behind the scenes action, and a throttling Rock’n’Roll soundtrack. This is a film about the importance of music, passion, and dedication in communities that often don’t have anything else. Since the issue of alternative venues being shut down has become a universal problem, towns worldwide can relate to a little bit of what we call No Fun City.

The ROOM ^

Tommy Wiseau's 'masterpiece' The Room has been hailed as the biggest cult film since Rocky Horror.

Soo bad it's good, it's drawn a cult following in the US with viewers acting out skits, storming out in disgust, and throwing plastic cutlery during screenings. However unlike other cult films such as Rocky Horror, or the Big Lebowski, these fans are drawn to how bad they regard the film to be!

Come and see the birth of a cult with it's poor score, terrible acting and internet meme generating script.

Sing-a-long-a Sound Of Music

When? See listings for full details of times/dates
How Much Is It? £14.50
What's the Deal? The Prince Charles Cinema is alive with the Sound of Music. Join Maria, a proliferation of nuns, the very dashing Captain Von Trapp and his delightful children to sing to your hearts content. For those of you who haven't seen the film every Christmas since the dawn of time the song lyrics are projected onto the screen to give you a helping hand.
A compere hosts every performance to whip you into a choral frenzy and is on hand at the interval to judge the fancy dress competition. (That's right, if singing in public is not humiliating enough for you then clad yourself in Auntie Vera's chintz curtains and jump up on stage to do battle for a prize fund to end all others).

How Much Is It? £14.50
What's the Deal? Dust off those stilettos and corsets, it's time to hit the west end and scare everyone on the tube here. Yes, join Frankenfurter and the gang plus an audience of half naked crossdressed transylvanians and heckle and cheer your way through the most interactive film ever put on the silver screen. Our compere will pull all the Rocky virgins up out onto the stage and judge you all on your lack of fancy dress, so make an effort and squeeze into that little number which never normally makes it out of the bedroom...
