Funeral Parade Queer Film Society is proud to present Dracula’s Daughter, a queer-coded classic of Old Hollywood horror.
This direct sequel to Tod Browning’s Dracula follows the count’s offspring, countess Marya Zaleska, as she arrives in London to destroy her father’s body, believing this will end her own vampiric bloodlust. Finding herself still compelled to feed on the living (particularly those of the fairer sex), she consults a psychiatrist in the vain hope she can be converted - will Dracula’s daughter ever be free of her deviant desires? This under-seen gem from the Universal Horror cycle also serves as a fascinating example of onscreen queer-coding immediately post-Hayes Code, with an affecting performance from Gloria Holden as the tortured countess.
