The bar is adorned by closeted catholics, diamond diva’s (played by Golden Girls’ Rue McClanahan,) flaming faeries and the blonde bombshell herself, Candy Darling. This is a rare chance to see the Warhol superstar in a serious dramatic role, something she was tragically seldom offered. Two years after the Stonewall Riots, this party movie captures the queer melting pot of the big apple in the early 70s, complete with a small time mafia owner, gay shame, catholic guilt and costume designers honey.
