Music Video Preservation Society is delighted to announce a special show dedicated to the amazing music videos of a great British record label - arguably the most maverick of all established British labels - London Records.

Following the success of ‘Hit That Perfect Beat’, the incredible story of London Records as told in a recent, highly acclaimed podcast series, we will take that story now to the big screen - showing the music videos that defined the label, hearing the tales behind the videos and celebrating their creative and cultural importance with some special guests.

And what a range of incredible visual work we have in store. In the early 80s to the late 90s, London Records was the home of groundbreaking pop and cutting-edge dance music, a label continually moving forward and taking risks, extending the boundaries of UK pop culture with a stream of exciting artists: Bananarama, Blancmange, Bronski Beat, Communards, East 17, Fine Young Cannibals, Goldie, Shakespear’s Sister, Utah Saints and more. And in this peak era of MTV their music videos were a crucial element in the creative and promotional armoury of these artists.

These pop promos always captured the moment. Just to give a few examples: the case of Bananarama it was the medium where they fully expressed their evolution, from the girls in Cruel Summer to the divas in Venus; for Bronski Beat, this was where they could tell stories from a LGBT perspective within Thatcher’s Britain; for Fine Young Cannibals, it was the medium that drove them to global stardom; for Shakespear’s Sister, it was where they fully realised their distinctive visual identity.

So this special meeting of MVPS is a brilliant opportunity to revisit the videos of these artists, to enjoy their greatness on the big screen. And MVPS host David Knight will be talking to some guests who will bring fascinating insight to how they were made and their impact - including Sian Pattenden, music journalist and presenter of the 'Hit That Perfect Beat' podcast series; and Katie Baron, author, journalist and authority on the links between fashion and music.

It promises to be a very special meeting of Music Video Preservation Society at the PCC. So don’t miss it.
