We are delighted to announce a very exciting edition of Music Video Preservation Society at the Prince Charles Cinema - with one of the most brilliant music video directors of all time: the one and only Tim Pope.
Tim is among the most significant figures in the history of music videos, a pioneer in establishing its potential as an artform. He directed videos of boundless imagination, spirit and wit in service of the musicians and music he loves. And what a list of artists he’s worked with. From blagging his way into the just-emerging music video industry to direct promos for Soft Cell in the early 80s he blazed a trail with the likes of David Bowie, The The, Neil Young, Queen, Style Council, Talk Talk and, of course, The Cure - the band he is most closely associated with, for whom he has made by his own calculation, over 30 videos and several concert films.
Tim has now written about his fascinating (and often hilarious) adventures making pop videos in the 80s, 90s and beyond - plus a nightmarish brush with Hollywood making ‘The Crow 2’ for Harvey Weinstein - in his brilliant memoir ‘I Shoot Rock Stars’, published in August and now a Sunday Times bestseller.
And on November 18th, Tim is coming to The PCC to tell some stories from the book and more, in conversation with MVPS host David Knight - and he will also present a selection of his greatest music videos, now remastered back to their original glory, on the big screen. There will be classics, there will be surprises, there will be laughs, maybe a few tears...
Will we be showing Tim's notorious video for Sex Dwarf? We're not saying until we have consulted our lawyers. But rest assured, this meeting of Music Video Preservation Society is going to be awesome. Tickets on sale now at the box office.
