Join me this October as I celebrate publication of the third novel in my bestselling TerrorTome trilogy, This Bursted Earth with an especially curated season (by yours truly) of horror films which have influenced (and in many cases stolen from) my own creative juices.

First up we have a Satanic double-bill of Race With the Devil and Brotherhood of Satan on October 1st, both of which bear an uncanny resemblance to my own Satanic tale in a similar vein, (available in the aforementioned and aforecoming This Bursted Earth.)

RACE WITH THE DEVIL (1975) : Roger (Peter Fonda), his friend Frank (Warren Oates), and their wives (Lara Parker, Loretta Swit) are heading from San Antonio to the wilderness of rural Texas for some off-road motocross. What they find instead is a Satanic cult sacrifice, and they are unfortunate enough to be caught observing the ritual. Naturally, this doesn't sit too well with the cult members. Now Roger and Frank are on the run from what is apparently a very sizable Texan Satanist community.

THE BROTHERHOOD OF SATAN (1971): Widower Ben (Charles Bateman) is taking his young daughter (Geri Reischi) and new girlfriend (Ahna Capri) to visit a relative when they find a grizzly car accident by the highway. They report the incident to the sheriff (L.Q. Jones) in nearby Hillsboro, N.M., and discover the town in the grips of a deadly fear. In the past 72 hours, 26 people have died, and 11 children have gone missing. As Ben investigates, a local priest (Charles Robinson) informs him that a Satan-worshipping cult is to blame.

On 7th October, we present Abel Ferrara’s Body Snatchers, possibly the greatest threequel ever committed to celluloid (with the possible exception of Shark Attack 3 starring John Barrowman as Tom Cruise). 

When Environmental Protection Agency inspector Steve Malone travels to a remote military base in order to check for toxic materials, he brings his family along for the ride. After arriving at the base, his teenage daughter Marti befriends Jean Platt, daughter of the base's commander, General Platt. When people at the base begin acting strangely, Marti becomes convinced that they are slowly being replaced by plant-like aliens.

On 22nd October, we present Phase IV, a fiendish tale of invading Ant Overlords, feeding into (and borrowing heavily from) my own Ant Overlord novel, The Fourth Phase (of an imminent Ant Overlord Invasion). 

Arizona ants mock the food chain on their way to a desert lab to get two scientists and a woman.

We conclude the season on 29th October, we present John Carpenter’s In the Mouth of Madness, which some say influenced (but which I say borrowed heavily from) my own tales of a horror author menaced by his own fiction.

When horror novelist Sutter Cane (Jürgen Prochnow) goes missing, insurance investigator John Trent (Sam Neill) scrutinizes the claim made by his publisher, Jackson Harglow (Charlton Heston), and endeavors to retrieve a yet-to-be-released manuscript and ascertain the writer's whereabouts. Accompanied by the novelist's editor, Linda Styles (Julie Carmen), and disturbed by nightmares from reading Cane's other novels, Trent makes an eerie nighttime trek to a supernatural town in New Hampshire.
