See the show Time Out rated one of 2021 and 2019’s 50 Great Nights Out in London that has played to sell-out audiences across the UK and Australia.

Tim is the writer/performer of “It’s a Mystery!”, all about our love of whodunnits. An award-winning playwright and co-writer of the Royal Vauxhall Tavern’s 2017-2023 pantos (‘Goosed’, ‘Rubbed’, ‘Slipped’, ‘Pricked’, ‘Cracked’ and ‘Tossed’). He is the co-producer of the camp club night PopHorror.

Dorothy discovers she is back in the land of Oz, and finds the yellow brick road is now a pile of rubble, and the Emerald City is in ruins. Discovering that the magical land is now under the control of an evil empire, she sets off to rescue the scarecrow, the tin man and the lion with the help of her new friends.

Sara Goldfarb (Ellen Burstyn) is a retired widow, living in a small apartment. She spends most of her time watching TV, especially a particular self-help show. She has delusions of rising above her current dull existence by being a guest on that show. Her son, Harry (Jared Leto) is a junkie but along with his friend Tyrone (Marlon Wayans) has visions of making it big by becoming a drug dealer. Harry's girlfriend Marion (Jennifer Connelly) could be a fashion designer or artist but is swept along in Harry's drug-centric world. Meanwhile, Sara has developed an addiction of her own. She desperately wants to lose weight and so goes on a crash course involving popping pills, pills which turn out to be very addictive and harmful to her mental state.

Alexander makes a promise to God that he will sacrifice all he holds dear, if the disaster can be averted. The next day dawns and, as if in a dream, everything is restored to normality. But Alexander must keep his vow.

Among many other awards, The Sacrifice won the Cannes Grand Prix in 1986, the same year that Tarkovsky died of cancer in Paris at the age of 54.

After a lot of practise with a diction coach, Lina still sounds terrible, and Kathy, a bright young aspiring actress, is hired to record over her voice.

In this adaptation of Jane Austen's beloved novel, Elizabeth Bennet (Keira Knightley) lives with her mother, father and sisters in the English countryside. As the eldest, she faces mounting pressure from her parents to marry. When the outspoken Elizabeth is introduced to the handsome and upper-class Mr. Darcy (Matthew Macfadyen), sparks fly. Although there is obvious chemistry between the two, Darcy's overly reserved nature threatens the fledgling relationship.

The very best in the artform and cultural phenomenon of Music Video returns to the big screen at the Prince Charles Cinema on Thursday November 20th, with the third outing of Music Video Preservation Society at the West End’s legendary independent cinema. We’re delighted to announce that our special guest is a legendary film and music video director - perhaps the most rock ‘n’ roll director of all. It’s the one and only Julien Temple. 

Pop and rock music has been Julien’s lifelong passion and the inspiration and driving force behind many of his films, including his trailblazing debut feature The Great Rock ‘n’ Roll Swindle, his blockbuster musical Absolute Beginners and numerous acclaimed feature-length docs such as The Filth & The Fury, Joe Strummer: The Future Is Unwritten, Oil City Confidential and Glastonbury.

What’s more, Julien was a pioneering music video director throughout the 80s and the 90s, working with the likes of The Rolling Stones, David Bowie, The Kinks, Depeche Mode, Dexy’s Midnight Runners, Sade and Janet Jackson, to name just a few.

So we will be presenting some of Julien’s brilliant work in music videos on the big screen and hearing the stories behind these and more from the man himself. There will also be another amazing and eclectic collection of music videos - both classics and rare gems, from the 1970s (or thereabouts) to the 2020s - at this final MVPS show of 2025. And host David Knight will be joining the dots between this curated selection with the help of some special guests. 

One of the most important production companies in the history of British music videos celebrates its 40th anniversary next month. Academy Films, formed in late 1985, is the company behind pop promos by Jonathan Glazer, Walter Stern, Kim Gehrig, Us, Big TV and much more. So MVPS will examine its achievement in music videos - and screen a few of its greatest ever vids.

We will also pay tribute to Diane Martel, the trailblazing and controversial pop video director, who died in September. Diane worked with huge pop stars for much of her distinguished career, but we will also be focussing upon her early videos for emerging artists in the New York hip hop scene in the Nineties. 

And as iconic director (and massive PCC fan) Paul Thomas Anderson enjoys acclaim and success with new movie ‘One Battle After Another’, what better time to look at PTA’s frequent outings as a music video director? Is he any good? (spoiler: yes he is).

Farmers from a village exploited by bandits hire a veteran samurai for protection, who gathers six other samurai to join him.

Badlands announced the arrival of a major talent: Terrence Malick. His impressionistic take on the notorious Charles Starkweather killing spree of the late 1950s uses a serial-killer narrative as a springboard for an oblique teenage romance, lovingly and idiosyncratically enacted by Martin Sheen and Sissy Spacek. The film introduced many of the elements that would earn Malick his passionate following: the enigmatic approach to narrative and character, the unusual use of voice-over, the juxtaposition of human violence with natural beauty, the poetic investigation of American dreams and nightmares. This debut has spawned countless imitations, but none have equaled its strange sublimity.

A comic-book nerd and Elvis fanatic Clarence (Christian Slater) and a prostitute named Alabama (Patricia Arquette) fall in love. Clarence breaks the news to her pimp and ends up killing him. He grabs a suitcase of cocaine on his way out thinking it is Alabama's clothing. The two hit the road for California hoping to sell the cocaine, but the mob is soon after them.

Newly restored in 4K to coincide with its 40th anniversary, the 1984 film was directed by renowned filmmaker Jonathan Demme and is considered by critics as the greatest concert film of all time. Stop Making Sense stars core band members David Byrne, Tina Weymouth, Chris Frantz, and Jerry Harrison along with Bernie Worrell, Alex Weir, Steve Scales, Lynn Mabry and Edna Holt. The live performance was shot over the course of three nights at Hollywood's Pantages Theater in December of 1983 and features Talking Heads' most memorable songs.

This widely acclaimed film from Soviet director Elem Klimov is a stunning, senses-shattering plunge into the dehumanizing horrors of war. As Nazi forces encroach on his small village in present-day Belarus, teenage Flyora (Aleksei Kravchenko, in one of the screen’s most searing depictions of anguish since Renée Falconetti’s Joan of Arc) eagerly joins the Soviet resistance. Rather than the adventure and glory he envisioned, what he finds is a waking nightmare of unimaginable carnage and cruelty—rendered with a feverish, otherworldly intensity by Klimov’s subjective camerawork and expressionistic sound design. Nearly suppressed by Soviet censors who took eight years to approve its script, Come and See is perhaps the most visceral, impossible-to-forget antiwar film ever made.

Easily excitable Neal Page (Steve Martin) is somewhat of a control freak. Trying to get home to Chicago to spend Thanksgiving with his wife (Laila Robins) and kids, his flight is rerouted to a distant city in Kansas because of a freak snowstorm, and his sanity begins to fray. Worse yet, he is forced to bunk up with talkative Del Griffith (John Candy), whom he finds extremely annoying. Together they must overcome the insanity of holiday travel to reach their intended destination.

So bad it's good, it's drawn a cult following in the US with viewers acting out skits, storming out in disgust, and throwing plastic cutlery during screenings. However unlike other cult films such as Rocky Horror, or the Big Lebowski, these fans are drawn to how bad they regard the film to be!
